Ethereum classic price
Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a blockchain-based computer platform specializing in smart contract functionality. It has come into being after a split within the Ethereum community about how to deal with a breakthrough known as DAO. Basically ETC is the original version of Ethereum, which is why it is called Classic.
DAO was a form of investor-oriented venture capital fund, which raised $ 160 million through a symbolic sale in May 2016. However, nearly a month later, hackers took advantage of weakness in the code and stole 3.6 million Ethereum. There was a wait period of 28 days before the hacker could transfer the stolen money from the DAO account to another address.
After thinking about three weeks of the procedure to take, the community decided to implement the hard fork (Bitcoin division) on July 20, 2016 in order to reduce the losses that occurred with DAO. This decision was also approved by the maker of Vitalik Buterin, because the stolen amount was too large and would have led to the demise of Ethereum, so a solid fork was implemented and the stolen coins were returned to their owners.
